Cilento

The National Park of Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni is an Italian national park established in 1991, while in 1995 the institution for its management was established. The protected natural area of ​​approximately 36 000 hectares, entirely included in the province of Salerno, was subsequently extended to bring its surface to 181 048 hectares, corresponding today to the southern part of the province, included between the plain of the Sele in the north, Basilicata to the east and south and the Tyrrhenian Sea to the west. Includes, in whole or in part, the territories of 8 mountain communities and 80 municipalities. Since 1998 it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (with the archaeological sites of Paestum and Velia and the Certosa di Padula), since 1997 it has been a Biosphere Reserve and since 2010 it is the first Italian national park to become a Geopark. The Cilento Coast reigns supreme in Campania with as many as 10 locations mentioned in Legambiente's "guidablu" and as many as 8 locations that boast the "FEE Blue Flag".
